Bring your canvas bags...

I started last year... first with just one bag (purchased at the food conspiracy co-op, around $10), then adding another a little while later (purchased from Tucson CSA, also about $10, but a lot flimsier, don't recommend this one), then, a little while later adding on with one from Sunflower market (about $6), which I liked so much I went back and got another so I would have two... only to be offered money for one of them at Safeway - the lady had loved hers, lost it, and Sunflower stopped stocking them for a while. I let her buy mine off me, then I promptly went and bought a replacement (Sunflower is stocking them again, last time I went).
I love my four canvas bags, and have finally gotten to where it is second nature to take them into stores with me. I think I will try to make my next bag (perhaps a longer-handled variation of this pattern ). I want to have enough that even my large shopping trips will all fit into my canvas bags. A good goal.
Some good places to get canvas bags online: resusablebags.com and ecobags.com
